CA POST CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING
POST Institute of Criminal Investigations (ICI)
ICI Instructor Update Workshop

This course is designed for instructors who have been selected to teach in one of the ICI Core Courses, Foundation Specialty Courses or elective classes or is a course coordinator.  The class is required for any instructor who teaches in any ICI class. The course will present the adult, experience-based model, which is used throughout the Institute. The first phase of instruction focuses on methods of instructional design, presentation skills, new technology, writing goals and objectives and the development of a total training package. The ICII classroom has a wireless network available to all attendees; it is recommended the student bring a laptop computer with a wireless capability to this training.

During the second phase of instruction, participants will demonstrate their newly acquired “active learning” teaching skills in a risk free environment with feedback provided by the ICII Staff.

Between Phases I and II, a mentor, who is a Master Instructor, will be assigned to the student to assist them with all phases of their learning and course development. In Phase III, the mentor will go into the ICI classroom with the student to monitor their presentation and provide valuable feedback to the student and the course coordinator. The mentor is a very positive part of this program and they are there to be a partner in the success of the student.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The student must come to this course with an assigned ICI lesson to teach or be a Course Coordinator; this is a required portion of the course. If you are unsure of the lesson you will teach please contact the local Course Coordinator or Presenter who assigned you to this training. Please also bring a laptop computer and all lesson materials (lesson plans, PowerPoint's, handout material, etc) with you to this training. The ICII has a small number of laptops available that will be assigned to students or shared during Phase I of the course. Having immediate access to a computer during this phase is extremely helpful to the process. Students are also encouraged to bring thumb drives to save and move files around during the program. This will allow you to work from already established ICI templates. We sincerely appreciate your assistance.

Once you have completed the SDRTC registration process please send an email to Curtis (Jeff) Cope, ICII Course Administrator, telling him you will be attending the ICII Course, the specific ICI Course (Course and location- example ICI Core Course in Sacramento) you teach in and the module of instruction you teach. It would also be helpful to provide him the contact information for the local ICI course point of contact.
