Course Description: This course is designed for instructors who have been selected to teach in an ICI Core Course, or Foundation Specialty Course. The ICI Instructor Course (ICII) is required by POST regulation for these instructors. This instructor development course will present in an adult, experience-based model, which is used throughout the Institute in the various investigative training courses.
The first phase of instruction (3-day Phase One) focuses on methods of instruction, instructional design, presentation skills, and new technology, writing goals and objectives and the development of lesson plans. The ICII classroom has a wireless network available to all attendees and it is essential that the student bring a laptop computer with wireless capability to this training. Having access to a computer during this phase is extremely important to the process of learning. It is possible, with proper focus, to complete a majority, if not all of the module package and supporting material during Phase One.
During Phase two of instruction, which will occur approximately one month after Phase One, participants will demonstrate their newly acquired “adult, experience-based teaching” skills in the classroom environment with their peer students as learners and receive feedback from these peers and ICII staff. The learner will also be formally evaluated on the completion of a module training package that includes
tasks, learning objectives, lesson plan and supporting visuals and handouts.
Between Phases One and Two, a mentor will be assigned to assist the student in all learning and course development. In Phase Three, the mentor will go into the ICI classroom to formally evaluate the presentation and provide feedback to the student and the course administrator. The mentor is a very positive part of this program and they are there to be a partner in the student’s success.
IMPORTANT: Please come to this course with an assigned ICI lesson to teach. If you are an ICI course administrator and are attending to learn the process, please come with an idea of a lesson that you will teach, such as the introduction. You will also prepare learning objectives and lesson plans for this portion of an ICI class. If you are unsure of the lesson you will teach please contact your course administrator or presenter who assigned you to this training. Bring all lesson materials that you currently have (lesson plans, PowerPoint's, handout material, etc) and that you use for your ICI training block. Students are also encouraged to bring thumb drives to save and move files around during the program. This will allow you to work from already
established ICI templates.
If you are a presenter or course administrator and have signed up an individual to attend this training course; please ensure they are given a copy of this page and understand what is expected of them. Following this process will ensure they return to you having successfully completed the ICI training requirement.
Once you have completed the SDRTC registration process please download the Word document from the link below, fill it out completely and email it to the ICII course administrator, Lee Steitz at steitztraining@gmail.com
