HOW TO BE ASSERTIVE
or HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE WHEN . . .
  • You're angry
  • You have to say no
  • You feel an argument coming on
  • You need to get your point across
  • You want to give feedback
  • You are dealing with a defensive person
  • You're being criticized

ASSERTION:
appropriate self-expression through which one stands up for one's own basic human rights without violating the rights of others. Using the definition of assertion, participants in the workshop learn verbal and non-verbal skills to help them to assert themselves and to be more effective at work. The training is dynamic, highly interactive, and takes place in a supportive atmosphere. Participants have the opportunity to increase their skill in response to those situations which are particularly challenging for them.
TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:
  • The rights involved in any situation
  • Developing assertive statements
  • Assessing personal assertion styles
  • Responding assertively to stress situations
  • Applying assertive skills to special problem areas, such as authority, job, customers
