PREPARING FOR AN ASSESSMENT CENTER

Assessment centers are an increasingly popular method of screening candidates for promotion in order to evaluate “job related behaviors” of supervisors and managers. This course will provide participants with an understanding of the skills that various exercises are designed to test.

The workshop will provide opportunities to practice techniques and receive constructive feedback in typical assessment center exercises including Leaderless Group Discussion, Subordinate Counseling Sessions and In-Basket Exercises.

TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:
  • Purpose of various assessment center exercises
  • Behaviors that assessment center raters watch for
  • How to sustain competitive energy during a lengthy assessment center
  • Appropriate interaction with fellow candidates, raters, and observers
  • How to prepare for a particular assessment center
