Navigating the Political Environment

Managers in government agencies are charged with envisioning the future, guiding their organization toward accomplishing goals, and successfully delivering services to the communities they serve. All of this must be done in a political environment.

This seminar will help experienced managers use their leadership skills of power and influence to make positive change in a political environment. It will include tips on dealing with sensitive situations and working with key stakeholders. A panel, comprised of City Managers and an Agency executive, will provide insights and answer questions about how to work effectively in the political environment.


Topic will include how to:
  • Understand how to leverage political resources.
  • Analyze unique political dynamics of public service organizations.
  • Identify key stakeholders' interests.
  • Realize your personal power and influence using the Power Profile.
  • Develop your Political Survival Plan.

Target Audience: Experienced middle managers who have attended training in supervisory or management skills
